Join Us for an Early Childhood Workshop Just for Museum and Library Educators!

Shady Lane School and Phipps Conservatory present a creative exploration through art, music, movement, literature, and science. Thursday, February 13 at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes at Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens.

Education Through Play:  Effective Methods for Early Childhood Learning in Museum and Library Settings”

Morning Session                9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

We will define ways in which physical space and materials can influence and maximize children’s potential to acquire knowledge.  Participants will have an opportunity to interact and develop process-oriented experiences that best meet their interests.  Through hands-on activity, we will demonstrate understanding of when and how children are able to achieve individual learning goals.

  • Welcome and Introductions
  • Developmentally Appropriate Practice for mixed-age groups
  • Becoming an “Emergent Educator”
  • Small Group Discussion – Webbing (Process)
  • “Build It and Take It With You”

Lunch                                      11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

  • Networking As We Dine (Cost not included in registration; more details to come)

Afternoon Session             1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

We will define ways to positively partner with and engage families in our activities.  Through careful listening and open-ended questioning we will further provide developmentally and culturally appropriate communication.

“Paint, Dance, Laugh, and Create”, will provide additional materials and experiences that can be replicated in a multitude of settings, and end the day with some FUN!

Wrap-Up/Next Steps

The group will facilitate direction for on-going interaction and support among participants and other educators who work with young children.
