The Nature Play Area Gets Some Serious Use

by Melissa Harding

Our new nature play has been up and running since May and is really starting to get some action. This new play area gives kids the opportunity to play in a relatively unstructured, natural area and use their imaginations.

It has a digging pit, fort building area, stepping logs, stone maze, farm-house and even  a child-sized trail of grape arbors.

Obviously, it’s pretty fun.

Fairy Tales Come Alive at Phipps

by Melissa Harding

Kicking off our summer of exciting camps is Fairy Tale Forest, a five-day camp for 4 and 5 year-olds. Every day is based on a different fairy tale and the plants that are featured in each. We learn about Cinderella and her carriage of pumpkins, Jack and his beans and even how to make bread with The Little Red Hen.

We also spend a lot of time playing in the garden. Every day we pick vegetables for our snack; we even make our own Stone Soup (complete with stones). We pick flowers to decorate wands and leaves to make into crowns.

This is a really fun camp for us to run. Every day is full of magic plants and fairy wands. The campers that come to Fairy Tale Forest love fairy tales, especially princesses. On the first day, we were asked by several campers when we were going to meet Cinderella. Why didn’t we think of that?
